27th ANNUAL ELECTRA GOAT BBQ
The Electra Chamber of Commerce will award over $3000 in prize money and offer a chance to win $1000 and many other prizes at the 27th Annual Electra Goat Bar-B-Q & Craft Show to be held Friday and Saturday, May 7th and 8th, 2010. This year’s event will again be held at the fairgrounds located at the eastern edge of Electra on East Cleveland Street, just one block north of Business Hwy 287.
For the 15th straight year, the Lone Star Barbecue Society will sanction the cookoff. Contestants will be competing in four major categories, including goat, brisket, pork spare ribs and chicken. Entry fee is $80 and prize money will be awarded for 1st through 5th places, with points for grand champion being given through 10 places. Grand Champion will be awarded an additional $300. Jackpot steak and jackpot salsa competitions will be held Friday night, and jackpot beans on Saturday afternoon. Entry fee for the jackpot competitions is $5 per entry.
Trophies will be awarded for the Most Original Bar-B-Q Pit, People’s Choice and the Farthest Traveled, as well as the Most Original Craft Booth.
Other events and activities planned for the annual family event include an Arts & Crafts Show, calcutta auction and cow patty plop. Music will be provided on Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday.
The Chamber is currently recruiting volunteers to judge in each category.
